Chinese Dumplings

Written by Mikayla and Sam

Last Thursday we made Chinese dumplings. To say 'dumplinigs' in Chinese is wa-teep (pronouced war teep)

We had helpers come in and help us to make the dumplings. The helpers were Sam's mum and Por Por (grandma in Cantonese) and Rohan's grandma. The whole class was very very excited. We made the dumplings because we are studying Ancient China.

We learned how to use chopsticks to eat the dumplings. You put your middle finger in between the chopsticks. Then make your chopsticks even. Put your index finger on top of the highest chopstick.

The class loved the dumplings we loved them too.

The ingredients:
160g of pork/chicken mince
2 tablespoons of chopped water chestnuts
half a teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of soya sauce
1 teaspoon of sesame oil
1 tablespoon of water and 20-25 Chiao Tzu round wrappers.

Mix all of the ingredients well for several minutes. Put a teaspoonful of mixture into the middle of the wrapper, fold in half , press the edges together and pleat. Gently press down on both sides of the pleat to flatten the bottom. Brown the bottoms in a frying pan, add some water, cover, turn down the heat and allow to steam for 5-6 minutes till cooked.
